Instructions for Replacing WHS Mains Water Filter
Whole House / Property InstallationCustomer Infomation
If this is a new fitting you will need an installer who can cut water pipes.
Please note: This is a very easy job. A fully qualified plumber is welcome but not necessary. They'd be over-qualified. A builder or handyman who can change a tap will probably do.
A new fitting should take a professional installer the following approximate times:
Around one to two hours to fit the Single Unit.
For the double or treble unit it should take around 3 hours to fit.
See below for further new installation instructions.
Replacment / Renewal Fitting
If it’s a renewal filter you don’t necessarily need a professional. You can probably just replace yourself on a like-for-like basis.
A renewal will take around 10 to 15 minutes.
If the installer fitted a plastic push-fit connection this is even easier. you can easily replace the filter.
Simply push the ring in while pulling the filter/ copper pipe-end out. (You can see the prinicple involved on this video).
If it was originally plumbed in “copper pipe to copper pipe” you will need a 22mm nut, a brass or copper “crush o-ring” and some sealant.
Or take this opportunity to insert a 22mm John Guest type plastic push-fit connection instead. You can easily get any of these from B and Q etc
Below are instructions to give to your installer.
Installer Information / Fitting Instructions - New Installation
Suitable for potable water only. (Please note IN stamp on end of unit)
Single Unit
Fit the unit on the incoming water main.
While the single unit can be placed horizontally, in line with existing pipe work, the best position is vertically.
If fitted vertically, the flow direction should be from the bottom up to ensure beads are fully excited by the water.
Add brackets to the pipes near either side of unit for stability.
Ideally John Guest type push-fit connectors should be used to simply straight-connect the existing pipe to the 22mm pipe pre-fitted on the end of the filter. (Do NOT remove these).
A bypass should be fitted to make isolation and replacement of the unit easy.
Flush for 1 minute after fitting from the nearest mains supplied tap.
Double and Triple Units
Fit the units to the wall or kitchen unit.
The units must be placed vertically with the the flow direction from the bottom up to ensure beads are fully excited by the water.
Connect to the incoming water main by creating a manifold on the top and the bottom of the unit (one inlet and exit pipe).
Important note: Multiple units should be fitted in parallel not in series ie split the flow between each filter.
